Allée Lison de Caunes
Inauguration
On Friday, October 11, 2024, Ateliers Lison de Caunes was present alongside Lison at the inauguration of the alley that now bears her name in the town of Saint-Quentin (Aisne). –
“Thank you Mme la maire, thank you Jean-Claude and Anne Lallement and thank you to the Municipal Council for accepting this naming, apparently unanimously.
At the same time, I learned a new word: odonymy, or the art of naming streets, avenues, alleys…
I can’t begin to tell you how astonished I am – and that’s putting it mildly – and how proud I am to have a driveway named after me, but above all in my own lifetime! It’s only a short step from there to thinking that all that’s left for me to do is die, a step I don’t intend to take just yet.
I’m even more flattered that my driveway leads to the Lycée d’Ameublement in Saint-Quentin, where we train the next generation of craftsmen. As proof, Emma Valentini, a former student of the school, joined the workshop over a month ago. The circle is complete.
I’d also like to thank my family and friends who have made the trip, who have believed, more or less, in me for over 40 years, when I persisted in making straw marquetry a luxurious and prestigious product. For my part, I’ve always believed in it, and today’s tribute probably proves me right.
Thanks also to all the members of my workshop for putting their talent and patience at the service of this beautiful material.
I’m thinking of Jean-Luc Rodot, who works hard in his field to supply me with this beautiful rye straw, because it’s also thanks to him that this craft has expanded so much.
And finally, a thought for my two daughters, Clémentine and Pauline. I hope they are as proud of me as I am of them.”
